Why is my svn:ignore not working?

In my root directory I have set my svn:ignore in my root directory to:

*.suo bin obj
 

However, when I go to commit with TortoiseSVN it is still trying to commit all of the bin and obj directories throughout the project.

What am I doing wrong?
